What’s trending in jewellery? NET-A-PORTER’s Fashion Director breaks it down

INSTAGRAM // @netaporter

LET’S BE HONEST: we’ve all seen the jewellery trends floating around online. The stacked rings. The oversized resin cuffs. The resurgence of the choker (again).

But when you strip away the TikTok algorithms and the Pinterest boards, what are people actually buying? What pieces are genuinely sticking around — not just for the season, but for your wardrobe?

To get a read on where jewellery is heading in 2025 (and what’s quietly dominating shopping carts behind the scenes), BAZAAR spoke to NET-A-PORTER’s Fashion Director Kay Barron for her take. She sees the trends before most of us do — not in theory, but in cold, hard add-to-cart data. And as it turns out, it’s a pretty refreshing mix: part personal, part playful, and very much about wearing what feels like you.

Here’s where jewellery is at right now.

According to Barron, individuality is at the centre of it all. “Customisable jewellery such as initial pendants and birthstones are popular as they continue to resonate with shoppers looking to express their individuality,” she explains.

But it’s not just about personalisation — shoppers are also becoming more conscious about what their pieces are made from. “There’s a growing demand for pieces made with recycled materials or ethically sourced gemstones, reflecting a commitment to sustainability.” So yes, you can care about the planet and your birthstone.

Zodiac signs, initials, heirloom-style charms — these aren’t just fleeting trends. As Barron puts it, “People are craving deeper connections and authenticity, and this is reflected in how we dress.” Jewellery, she says, is becoming more than just decoration. Sentimental pieces often carry memories or represent important relationships, making them so much more than just accessories. In short: it’s less about the look, more about the meaning.

Spoiler: it’s evolved. “Asymmetrical earring styles are on the rise, especially mismatched earrings or combining studs with hoops,” says Barron. Just look at Kylie Jenner’s ear stack — the stacked, mixed-and-matched approach is very much having a moment.

Body chains are also quietly making their way into the rotation — layered over clothing or hidden underneath for a little unexpected drama. Sculptural silhouettes across cuffs and earrings are growing too, along with one of 2025’s most wearable styling shifts: mixing metals.

“It adds an element of playfulness to a look,” Barron adds — and doesn’t require buying a whole new jewellery box to pull off.

What jewellery pieces are timeless?

The answer might surprise you: the choker. “We have seen the resurgence of chokers over the last couple of years, but I don’t think they ever go out of style,” says Barron. Whether fine or chunky, statement or simple, they continue to work hard in your wardrobe — framing the face, elevating a basic t-shirt, or adding polish to event dressing.

Are we heading into quiet luxury or maximalist jewellery?

Honestly? Both. Barron says there’s a genuine split, depending on the mood. “We are continuing to see refined, understated pieces that focus on quality and timeless design, however we are also seeing bold, coloured, sculptural maximalist styles at the same time.”

As for her own approach? “I love the elegance and versatility of minimalist pieces that can be worn everyday, however I also enjoy experimenting with more expressive designs which can really make an outfit.” In other words: you don’t have to pick a side.

What jewellery does NET-A-PORTER’s Fashion Director wear on repeat?

For Barron, it’s all about the single earring. “I love the versatility of this – it allows me to mix and match with other pieces, whether I’m dressing up for an event or going for something more casual. It’s practical yet expressive.” Which, to be fair, sums up where jewellery is at right now: personal, playful, and wearable — with plenty of space to make it your own.
